Frozen Bananas: Be sure to chop them before freezing them to make it easier to blend.
Frozen Blueberries: Make sure they are frozen.
Frozen Raspberries: Make sure they are frozen.
Orange Juice: Make sure its unsweetened plain orange juice.
Coconut Water: I like coconut water for the extra nutrients but you can use plain water as well.
Soaked Chia Seeds: It's best to soak the chia seeds in some water and let them swell and turn jelly like before consuming. I also like to add this for extra nutrition.

Variations

Variation: Feel free to add other berries to this raspberry and blueberry smoothie, like frozen blackberries or strawberries.

How to make this Blueberry Raspberry Smoothie

Step 1: Place everything into the blender.

Expert Tips

Use frozen fruit: Be sure to chop bananas and freeze them (at least 12 hours), the frozen bananas, blueberries and raspberries are easier to blend and also this helps to make the smoothie nice and cold. If it is not cold enough for your liking, you can add 1-2 ice cubes.
Serving times: This smoothie is perfect anytime of the day, you can quickly and easily blend it up and enjoy for breakfast, lunch, after dinner treat or a relaxing evening drink.
Chia seeds: Make sure you soak the chia seeds in water for about 20 minutes to form gel, which also makes them easier to digest.
Serve immediately: Smoothies do not keep well and are best enjoyed right away. Even when chilled in the refrigerator, their texture will begin to deteriorate, so I don't recommend storing them.

Do you need ice for a smoothie?

No ice is not needed for all smoothies, but yes there are recipes that do call for ice to be added. Also if once you make a smoothie it's not cold enough you might also add ice.

Should you use frozen berries in a smoothie?

I like to use frozen berries for smoothies because it keeps the smoothie cold and has a better texture.
