Ingredients
Here's a look at the simple ingredients you need to make this apple fruit smoothie recipe. Be sure to check the recipe card for the full list and quantities you will need for each item.
- Fruit: A combination of apple, strawberries, and banana gives this smoothie its vibrant color and sweetens it up without the need for any additional sugar.
- Oat Milk: Gives the strawberry and apple smoothie a creamy texture. Feel free to use another non-dairy milk such as cashew, coconut, or oat. Ensure the milk you are using is unsweetened.
- Coconut Yogurt: Adds more creaminess to the smoothie. You can swap for soy or almond yogurt if you’d like. Be sure to use an unsweetened coconut yogurt to keep this smoothie refined sugar-free.
- Coconut Water: Adds natural sweetness and a hint of coconut flavor. Ensure the brand you are using does not contain any added sugars or artificial sweeteners.
- Cashew Butter: Adds healthy fat and protein to this apple smoothie recipe. Be sure to use unsweetened cashew butter.
Variations
- Cashew Butter: Try using another nut butter such as almond or peanut.
- Nut-Free: Replace the cashew butter with sunflower seed butter for a nut-free strawberry apple banana smoothie.
- Protein Powder: Add a scoop of pea protein powder or your favorite vegan vanilla protein powder to give this smoothie a protein boost.
How to Make This Apple Strawberry Smoothie
Step 1: Add all of the ingredients to a high-speed blender.
Step 2: Blend until smooth.
Expert Tips
- Use frozen fruit: Be sure to use frozen strawberries and a frozen banana as this helps to make the smoothie cold. If it is not cold enough for your liking, you can add 1-2 ice cubes.
- Try using homemade milk: This strawberry apple smoothie is great with one of our homemade non-dairy milk recipes such as our cashew milk, oat milk, coconut milk, or almond milk.
- Serve immediately: Smoothies do not keep well and are best enjoyed right away. Even when chilled in the refrigerator, their texture will begin to deteriorate, so I don’t recommend storing them.
Recipe FAQs
The best apples to use for an apple smoothie are sweet varieties such as Fuji, Gala, and Honeycrisp. You can use Granny Smith if you prefer a tart flavor.
There’s no need to peel the apple, but you can if you prefer it without the skin. You will, however, need to core and slice your apple before adding it to the blender.
Slice each banana into coins and arrange them in a single layer on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Place the baking sheet in the freezer for about 2-3 hours and then transfer the banana pieces to a freezer-safe container. They will keep in the freezer for up to 6 months.
I like to use frozen strawberries for smoothies because it keeps the smoothie cold and has a better texture.
